According to Kevin: “My goal has always been and is to provide the highest quality image at the lowest cost possible. If you use a color-managed workflow, you will spend less time and materials and be less frustrated.

Calibrating and profiling your monitor is a great way to start whether you are printing on your own or having another company print for you. Consistency from year to year is key. Every other component from cameras, scanners and printers can, and should, be color managed.

If you use a color-managed workflow, you can achieve better results.”

More about Kevin Elliott At 12 years of age, Kevin became interested in photography when his grandmother gave him an old Kodak Brownie automatic camera. Inspired, he started shooting, darkroom processing, and printing his own images.

In the years that followed an obsession with technique, composition, and quality improvement grew.

After graduating from Colorado Mountain College, Glenwood Springs in 1976 with an A.A.S. degree in Commercial Photography, Kevin started his own photography business until he joined Cies/Sexton Photographic Laboratories as a color print technician. Here he worked on quality improvement and efficiency.

22 years later he was both part-owner and General Manager of the operation. His time there coincided with the dawn of the digital age of photography, and Kevin and his company began working with color management on Kodak LVT, Durst Lambada and inkjet printers. One big focus was finding ways to match PMS colors and provide a neutral gray scale.

Since 2001, Kevin has worked as a computer consultant and color management specialist in his own business, digitalMD. He has assisted individual photographers to large commercial printing operations achieve WYSIWYG color. He is certified in many Color RIPs (raster image processors), certified by SGIA (Specialty Graphics Industry of America) and has worked with printing equipment from desktop size to 16 feet wide.
