Skills Lab Day
Saturday at Elevate is designed to get you out of your chair and into the work. This is a hands-on Skills Lab experience focused on three foundational pillars of any genre of strong photography: Lighting, Composition, and Color Theory with real practice built right in.
How the Day Works
Morning: Learn the Skill
You’ll spend the morning in focused, one-hour sessions with three expert presenters, each teaching one core skill:
-
Lighting – Understanding light, shaping it with intention, and creating consistent results
-
Composition – Building stronger images through visual flow, balance, and storytelling
-
Color Theory – Using color to create mood, cohesion, and emotional impact
Each session is designed to be practical, approachable, and immediately usable, no theory without application.
Afternoon: Put It Into Practice
This is where Elevate does things differently.
In the afternoon, you’ll rotate through hands-on skill labs, working in smaller groups to apply what you learned that morning. Each lab focuses on one specific skill:
-
Practice lighting setups
-
Experiment with compositional choices
-
Work intentionally with color
You won’t just watch someone else do it, you’ll do it yourself, ask questions in real time, and walk away with a clearer understanding of how to use these tools in your own work.
